Gottman Method Couples Therapy: Latest Developments in Relationship Assessment and in Working with Comorbidities

Gottman模式的伴侣咨询:在关系评估和各种并发症治疗方面的最新进展

Robert Navarra
美国Gottman研究中心

Abstract: An international study by Drs. Julie and John Gottman of over 40,000 couples beginning therapy provides important insights into the problems couples are experiencing and what they need in therapy. The data indicated that couples beginning therapy are at significantly high levels of distress, presenting with comorbidities, and at great risk for divorce. New state-of-the art technology, developed by Affective Software in collaboration with the Gottman Institute now offers clinicians a telehealth platform utilizing a multidimensional approach in assessment with automated reports created for the clinician and couples. A review of this technology and its implications offers new possibilities for future directions in treatment.

Dr. Navarra also teaches a relational approach to helping couples with comorbidities. The “Couple Recovery Development Approach” (CRDA), is based on his original research on couples impacted by an addictive disorder. This systemic perspective emphasizes support for each partner as well as for the relationship impacted by any serious medical or mental health disorder. Dr. Navarra reviews four interventions clinicians can utilize when addressing comorbid disorders in couples therapy.
